CDAC Also Invites Field Trips to Date
Gardens or Dates
Delivered to Classrooms
INDIO, CA. – (September 28, 2006) Now
in its fourth printing, “Fun Facts about
California Dates,” a bold, colorful
education pamphlet for school age children,
developed by the California Date
Administrative Committee (CDAC), is again
available for teachers and educators this
school year.
A variety sampler of dates may be requested
for students to enjoy during their study of
California Dates. Local teachers may also
arrange for field trips to a date garden
through the CDAC, with transportation to be
provided by the schools. For more
information, please call (760) 347-4510.
Over the past four years, more than 60,000
pamphlets were distributed at no charge to
local elementary, middle and high schools,
as well as to schools and nutrition
education programs across California and the
United States including Iowa, Florida, North
Carolina, Hawaii, New York, New Mexico,
Ohio, Louisiana, and Colorado.
The five-by-five, tri-fold pamphlet gives
children a brief look at the history of
dates, how dates are grown and harvested,
why they are good for you, and how they get
along with many other foods. A crossword
puzzle and word scramble gives kids a chance
to use the information in the pamphlet to
figure out a special message. The answers
to the puzzle and other information about
the California Date industry may be found on
the CDAC website at
www.DatesAreGreat.com.
Using the bright and bold date
garden artistry of Lexi Keck, a local
student whose family owns Hadley’s Date
Gardens, the pamphlet is eye-catching and
appealing to children. Graphic artist Becky
Barrett designed the pamphlet printed on a
recycled felt-finish paper, making it even
more tactile and child-friendly. The
pamphlet is aimed at children aged 6 to 12
years old, but is suitable for all ages.
As part of the CDAC’s efforts to
educate youngsters about the California date
industry, schools and educators may request
a quantity of the pamphlets, free of charge,
for use in the classroom. For an order form
or more information about the “Fun Facts
about California Dates,” contact the CDAC
office at (760) 347-4510 or 800-223-8748 or
